Solving Neighborhood Traffic Problems

Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Describe a variety of residential land use and street patterns and their expected effects on neighborhood traffic problems
  • List typical non-traffic characteristics of residential neighborhoods that impact the implementation of traffic control techniques
  • Select appropriate traffic studies and other techniques to identify and quantify the nature of a neighborhood traffic problem
  • Apply appropriate traffic control and calming techniques to reduce traffic problems and increase the livability of existing neighborhoods
  • Describe a variety of existing traffic calming and traffic control devices in use based on their first hand observation
  • Explain typical difficulties and details of implementing a neighborhood traffic control program and how those might be overcome

Improve your understanding of residential neighborhood street design concepts, including current approaches that reduce traffic problems in existing neighborhoods.
